Hot Springs, Arkansas

One of the best golf values in the country, tucked into the Ouachita Mountains and anchored by Hot Springs Village — a huge gated community with eight public-access courses and 171 holes, all booked through one central tee-time office. Most green fees run around $100 for visitors, so a buddies trip here goes a long way. Rent out a whole lakefront house for the group, get a boat out on Lake Hamilton or Lake Ouachita, and pair the golf with a classic American spa town: Hot Springs National Park, historic Bathhouse Row, and Oaklawn racing. A seriously cool, seriously affordable spot.

Best time to visit: Spring & Fall (March–May, September–November); mild enough for winter golf
