Sand Valley Golf Course
Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw design across natural sand ridges — walkable, minimalist, and strategic. Ranked #21 on the Top 100 Public Courses in the US (2026).
Wisconsin, USA
Nobody expected Wisconsin to produce a world-class golf destination, and that's exactly what makes Sand Valley so satisfying. Built on an ancient lakebed of sand deposits in the central part of the state, it shares more DNA with Bandon Dunes or Ballybunion than anything you'd expect from the Midwest. Coore & Crenshaw and David McLay Kidd have produced two of the most acclaimed courses to open in America this decade, and the remote, no-frills atmosphere is precisely the point.
Best time to visit: June – October

Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw design across natural sand ridges — walkable, minimalist, and strategic. Ranked #21 on the Top 100 Public Courses in the US (2026).

David McLay Kidd's bold companion course — wider fairways, massive greens, and dramatic elevation changes across the same extraordinary sand terrain. Currently ranked among the Top 25 public courses in the US.

The third Sand Valley course — a Ben Crenshaw & Bill Coore design that opened in 2024, adding a more intimate, walking-only layout to the growing resort.

A faithful recreation of the legendary C.B. Macdonald design that was lost to history — rebuilt at Sand Valley using the original plans. Ranked #12 on the Top 100 Public Courses in the US (2026) and a Top 50 course in the world. A bucket-list round for any golf architecture fan.

A worthy add-on when you're at Sand Valley — SentryWorld sits about 55 minutes north in Stevens Point. A Robert Trent Jones Sr. design, fully reimagined in 2013, it's Wisconsin's original destination course and a genuine bucket-list stop — headlined by the famous "Flower Hole," a par-3 16th framed by more than 50,000 flowers. It's a luxury resort course, but public day tee times are available.

Free short course at Sand Valley — a fun, low-pressure option for evening rounds or post-dinner putting. One of the best short courses in the Midwest.
